●● Press the Eject button, open the scanner door and collect the
slides from the autoloader slide rack.
●● Log off the system, switch off the computer, and turn off the
scanner.

The dynamic images obtained by scanner are in special digital for-
mat. Different scanners use different image formats. Each image
format could be read by complimentary program provided by the
provider (virtual slide viewer). However, the formats are not inter-
changeable between different providers. The area(s) of interest of
each dynamic image could be captured into standard images files
(such as .jpg [Joint Photographic Experts Group] or .tiff [Tagged
Image File Format]). Before capturing the snapshot of images, the
operator could add many features. For instance, the operator could
add pointer (arrow), show the scale bar, etc. The digital images
captured could also be analyzed by programs available in the mar-
ket or for free download from the web for analysis [ 9 ].
For instance, automated image analysis could be done on
nuclear or membrane immunostaining by free web applications:
(ImmunoRatio—http://153.1.200.58:8080/immunoratio/;
ImmunoMembrane—http://153.1.200.58:8080/immunoratio/).
They are commonly used to study Ki-67, estrogen receptor,
progesterone receptor, and HER2 staining in pathology.

3.6 Work with the
Images (Fig. 5 )

Fig. 5 The software designed for the program could retrieve the scanned image of an esophageal adenocarci-
noma. There are many manipulations of the scanned images before it could be captured into standard presen-
tation formats (see the tool bar at the top of image). For instance, the operator could add pointer (green arrow).
The “zoom bar” allows the operator to select the magnification to be captured
