still outperform non-985Us.
In the aspect of yearly change rate of research input, 985Us are also very
different from non-985Us. See Table3.10for details.
It can be seen in Table3.10, the growth rates of NK Disciplines and R&D Staff
in HSS disciplines of non-985Us are larger than that of 985Us in 2007–2010, while
the growth rate offinancial input is not always larger than 985Us.
In order to illustrate more visually gaps and their changes on research inputs
between 985Us and non-985Us, we plot the yearly average of each input into bar
chart. See Figs.3.15,3.16,3.17and3.18for details.
It can be seen from Figs.3.15and3.16, the averages of two human resources
indicators (R&D Staff and R&D Staff with Senior Title) of 985Us are larger than
those of non-985Us. The difference between 985Us and non-985Us on R&D Staff
is 188.97 versus 156.48 in 2006, and 367.76 versus 135.03 in 2010.
It can be seen from Figs.3.17and3.18, the university averages offinancial input
indicators (namely R&D Grants and per capita R&D Grants) of 985Us are much
higher than those of non-985Us. The gap on R&D Grants between the two types of
university is enlarged gradually, and the gap on per capita R&D Grants is more
fluctuant in thesefive years.
3.2.3 Status and Change of Research Inputs of 211Us
by University Location
3.2.3.1 NEAM Disciplines
In the full sample of NEAM 211Us, there are 56 universities located in eastern
China, 22 located in central China, and 22 located in western China. See Table3.36
