The Watcher in the Woods
8–10PM| LIFETIME

Disney’s 1980 slumber-party staple is granted new life as a Lifetime
movie directed by Melissa Joan Hart. “We have two audiences: the
ones that loved it and have these amazing memories of it, and the
ones that have never heard of it,” says Hart. The film follows a well-
scrubbed family from Cleveland spending a summer at a spooky
estate in Wales surrounded by even spookier woods, as their daugh-
ter, Jan (Tallulah Evans), becomes fascinated by the decades-old
disappearance of a local girl. Anjelica Huston plays the foreboding
Mrs. Aylwood, originally portrayed by Bette Davis. “We’re calling it
a reimagining,” says Hart. “The original was a little confusing. We
pulled that confusion out of it and focused it much more as a ghost
story.” But as always, the real monster is teen angst.—Dana Schwartz

And then there were six. When the teen hor-
ror drama returns, the surviving high school
students—who are hoping to be rescued
following a chemical-plant explosion that
turned exposed people into “freaks”—are
reeling from the sacrifice made by one of
their own in the season 1 finale. “It does give
them a new resolve as to how much they
have to fight to survive,” says creator Beth
Szymkowski. Especially after they discover
other survivors, which brings “a whole new
level of tension.” Teases Szymkowski, “This
is a dangerous world they live in, so I don’t
think anybody is ever safe.” —Gerrad Hall

says showrunner Scott M.
Gimple about season 8 of the

off in massive style in tonight’s

is just a fuse,” reveals Gimple.
“Then it explodes at the end,
and the narrative takes off like
