Author's explanation and Calling Procedures
HF Radio Telephone Service:
(Note: ALL calling and working Channels use}3E. OST transmitting
frequency is shown in the left-hand column; ship transmittingfrequency in
the right-hand column).
OST listens for calls from-ships on 4095 and 8237kHz at all times;
on 12248kHzfor one hour at 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 7600, 7800 and
2000; and on 16396kHzfor one hour at 0900, 1700, 1300, 1500, 7700
and 1900 (no listening watch on 6MHz or 22MHz).
Ships should call, e.g: Oostende Radio (x3) this is MV Wizard (x3)
callsign GWIZ -calling on Channel 815 - Over'
(If 8MHz reception is poor, OST may ask for your position, and move you
to another HF band - e.g: YV Wizard this is Oostende Radio -go
Channel 602 and standby, Over '
Reply - 'Oostende Radio this is Wizard - Channel 602 and standing-by
(OST will call you on 6504kH~ you reply on 6203kHz - give your
accounting details and the telephone number required; OST will connect
your call).
OST sends 'Traffic Lists' on 8767 kH~ every hour, on the hour, from 0800-
2000; on 13095kHz at 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800 and 2000;
and on 77278kHz at 0900, 1100, 7300, 7500, 1700 and 1900. (listen to
whichever frequency is best for your position and time of day/night - see HF
Propagation, Chapter 7)
