(John Hannent) #1

shiatsu. We move through yoga forms with a priority on moving well,
without end points, which automatically puts the emphasis on the
self, and doing more without the stress and tension that holds us
back from a ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality.

What still inspires you on the mat and in life?
Interesting question. I suppose a lot of yoga teachers get bored or
have a desire to change focus after a few years. I guess what has
kept me interested is a sort of obsession of softness, improving how
I move, and being really interested in people. For me, it’s about what
is possible when I improve how I move and how I am. There really isn’t
a big difference between the time on the mat and all the other time. I
see it all as the same practice and do my best to improve.

Any exciting plans or projects in the pipeline?
Oh yeah. Always something fun over here! We’re building a video
library of leadership trainings and classes to serve anyone interested
in dropping the tension and feeling better. It’s a mirror to our in
person programmes. It’s been really fun. Also, we’re working with
Scott Hahn, founder of Loomstate on a Strala clothing collaboration.
Loomstate is a leader in the sustainable fashion movement and I’m
excited to be a part of creating moveable clothing that helps people
feel better while being a part of a blueprint strategy of sustainability
moving forward. I’m learning a lot and that always gets me excited.
Also, we have big dreams of a nature studio to host people for
classes and trainings, like a home base, maybe somewhere out west
in America. We’re dreaming and looking for where that fits best. Also,
Daisy, our daughter is a year-and-a-half now. She is what I’m up to a
lot of the time.

QUICK LIFE HACK!
Soften. Let your breath move you. We all tend to tense too much
to do even the easy things, and we make the hard things so much
harder. When you feel the tension rolling in. Soften. Let your body be
moveable. Let your whole self be moveable. See what you can do from
there. Life can be so much more effective when we use our whole self.

Something that has been great for me is doing this right from bed
before I hop out in the a.m. Softness and letting my breath lead
the way. Sometimes it’s a few stretches. Sometimes it’s a longer
meditation or rolling on the floor and onto the mat for a practice.
Sometimes it’s just a few moments before Daisy wakes up :)
