Shelf Oddity

s well as a range of

decals that we feature

elsewhere in this issue

Shelf Oddity have also launched

a range of small-scale detail

sets. This month we have a

photo etched brass set for the

Great Wall/Pit Road Vulcan.

This set adds scale detail to

the air brakes, ECM plate and

air-cooling scoops, landing

gear doors and engine jet

pipes and entrance ladder. As

well as adding some minute

details like windscreen wipers,

seat belts and antennas.

This manufacturer supplies a

comprehensive set of instructions

which you can download from

their web site, this also enables

you to see exactly what you are

buying something that I really

appreciate. The instructions use

a mix of text and photographs

of the model showing exactly

how that parts are assembled

and itted to the models. And

I certainly found them easier

to understand than many

line drawings used by more

established manufacturers

in this small scale.

CONCLUSION

If you have good eyesight

combined with a steady hand,

then this set is a great addition to

the already nice Vulcan kit. Our

ometimes it is hard to

know how to categorise

accessories, although

this set is a decal, its not a set

of markings, but a decal to

reproduce the laminations seen

on the propeller of a Fokker

D.VII (OAW),. So in my view

so it counts as an accessory.

(Wrong but I will let it pass Ed)

The set includes enough

laminations to inish three

propellers. But be warned

fore you use these decals,

the sheet will need to be

coated with a sprayed or

brushed layer of enamel

varnish. Which you would

know if you read the supplied

instructions. Like we all do!.

CONCLUSION

First World War German

propellers are very diicult

to paint correctly, especially

in 1/72 scale, so these decals

will be a real help. As the

instructions say, the decals

are tricky to apply but you do

get three goes to get it right!

Sierra Hotel Models

I

must start with an apology to

Sierra Hotel as this very nice

representation of an Aces II

ejection seat with a loose harness

was received for review last year

but was overlooked. Preparation

is simple just remove from the

casting block with a razor saw and

paint to taste and add to model.

CONCLUSION

I am waiting for a chance to use

this but as always, the case when

I receive something that I really

want to use I have nothing on the

imminent build pile to put it on!

Halberd Models

T

he inal set that we

received on the launch

of Halberd Models

from the Ukraine is in 1/72

scale and supplies a complete

set of resin and rubber wheels

for the B-26 Invader. hub.

The resin set supplies no

less than three alternative

styles for the main wheel

while the rubber tyres have

a very nice tread pattern as

well as a great representation

of the Goodyear markings

on the side wall which in

this scale is something

resin manufacturers would

struggle to match.

As I have said numerous

times in the past some

modellers will have turned of

at the word rubber tyres but

these are very nicely done in

a nice rubber dark black grey

colour not the glossy black

some kits have had included

with them and should not put

you of purchasing these sets.
