who she was; she’d already won
a few Emmys by then. I think our
dynamic worked immediately
and I remember thinking, ‘This
worked really well.’ I think it was
good casting for the two of us and
that they’re a good match for each
other. I thought we worked very
well off each other, so she already
had my respect for her reputation,
and it was super-easy to just kind
of go with the flow with her. We’ve
developed a really
nice friendship, so it’s
worked out well.”
First Time
Recognizing
Julian/Alexis’s
Popularity:
“Sitting down with
Michael Logan from
TV Guide [to do a joint
interview with Nancy
Lee Grahn, Alexis],
that was probably the
first time I realized just
how popular [we] were,
because he was saying,
‘Do you realize there’s
a “Julexis” army?’ I had no idea that
‘Julexis’ saved my job in the end because I
wasn’t supposed to be there for that long.”
First Live Episode: “That was
great, the live episodes [in 2015]. I was
super-present for that; I wasn’t nervous at
all. I wish we’d do it again, but I don’t think
we will. I super-enjoyed that, my scenes
with Sonny and doing the East Coast and
West Coast feeds. Maurice wanted to mix it
up for the second feed. It was really great.”
First Time In Prison: “Julian
had been behind bars before, but
Pentonville was the first time they had

him in prison, along
with Sonny and Ava.
I thought that was
great! The whole thing
with Sonny and Julian
worked really well.
Them becoming allies
to serve a greater good
[working together to
break out], so to speak,
was fantastic. Ron
[Carlivati, ex-head
writer] came up with
some great stories for
the Jerome family, and
Maura and I really enjoyed that one.”
First Wedding: “As per usual, there’s
always got to be something that blows it up.
I remember Mo actually hit that poor actor
[Troy Ruptash, who played Dixon, who
took hostages at the church where the wed-
ding took place] by mistake, and everyone
was like, ‘Oh, my God, I think he actually
hit him!’ and he was like, ‘I’m fine, I’m
fine!’ It was a sweet episode. I think it was
a good episode. We got huge ratings, which
was awesome; I think it’s the last time that
the show got three million viewers, so I
remember that part!”
