Forestry Journal – August 2019

(vip2019) #1
A key partner in the creation and development of Forestry Expo
Scotland 2019, Dumfries-based Clark Engineering will be presenting
a range of premium brands for forestry professionals at the event.
Clark Engineering is the UK and Ireland distributor for Indexator,
Cranab, Tamtron, Markusson, Exte and Oregon.
Used and trusted by many of the UK’s largest sawmills, Clark
Engineering’s Powerhand GH series of log grapples will be on
display for visitors to get a closer look.
And, for the inaugural show, the Clark Engineering stand will
include several new and exciting products.

Included among them will be the new XR Series high-
torque rotators from Indexator. The XR
Series has been designed to withstand
the toughest of applications and can
be viewed on the Clark Engineering
stand in both swing-mount and rigid-
mount applications.

The Tamtron One Timber Scale
combines the innovative features of the New “One”
display and the new-generation strain gauge
weighing link to produce a product boasting
weighing results with an accuracy of 1–2% of
total load.
This low-maintenance system has a robust
design which is suitable for working in the
harshest of environments and is not affected
by the operator’s loading style.
No additional cables or hydraulic hoses are
required for the installation, and data collected
is transferred to the Tamtron cloud that can be
accessed from the Tamtron One Mobile App.

The Markusson Sensomatic is the latest automatic
chain grinder from the range offered by
Markusson Professional Grinders AB.
One of its key features is its ability to grind
the cutting link at three different places. The
Markusson Sensomatic also features a sensor
on the chain pusher which allows grinding
anywhere on the chain without grinding the wrong
cutter. The Sensomatic comes complete with an air
coolant, vacuum attachment, and magnetic work
light.
Along with its own Markusson-trained staff, Clark
Engineering will have Bosse Johansson (export
manager at Markusson Professional Grinders AB)
carrying out working demos of the Markusson
grinder range at Forestry Expo.

ABOUT THE

HARVESTING SITE

FORESTRY Expo’s harvesting site is the Upper
Howcleuch North Forest, which is a privately owned
forest of some 358 ha.
Managed by Fountains Forestry UK on behalf of a
private-investment client, the forest has been in single
ownership since establishment in the early 1970s,
and has a primary objective for the production of
commercial conifer timber supplying the sawlog, chip
and biomass markets.
The forest is managed under an approved long-term
forest plan, with the current felling works forming part
of the second phase of the operational plan. The forest
is compliant to UKWAS standards and certified as part
of Fountain Forestry’s resource management group,
with all restructuring in line with UK Forest Standard.
The restructuring of the current harvesting site will
incorporate secondary conifer, broadleaves adjacent
to the riparian zones and additional open ground, to
promote resilience, and improve biodiversity.
