Measurements include^1 ∕ 4 " seam allowances.
Sew with right sides together unless
otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated by
arrows on diagrams. If no direction is
specified, press seam toward darker fabric.1 ) Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line on
wrong side of each solid white 2^1 ∕ 8 " square.
(To prevent fabric from stretching as you
draw lines, place 220-grit sandpaper under
each square.)2 ) Layer a marked solid white square atop a
solid dark teal 2^1 ∕ 8 " square. Sew together
with two seams, stitching^1 ∕ 4 " on each
side of drawn line (Diagram 1). Cut
pair apart on drawn line. Press open
to make two triangle-squares. Each
triangle-square should be 1^3 ∕ 4 " square
including seam allowances. Repeat
to make 24 triangle-squares total.3 ) Referring to Diagram 2, sew together
four triangle-squares in pairs. Join pairs
to make a Pinwheel unit. The unit should
be 3" square including seam allowances.Repeat to make six Pinwheel units total.
Set one Pinwheel unit aside to be used in
Assemble Trees Section.4 ) Referring to Diagram 3, sew a solid dark
teal 3× 51 ∕ 2 " rectangle to one edge of a
Pinwheel unit. Join a solid dark teal 3×28"
rectangle to opposite edge to make Unit A.
The unit should be 3× 351 ∕ 2 " including seam
allowances. Repeat to make two A units.5 ) In a similar manner, sew solid dark teal
3 ×18" and 3× 151 ∕ 2 " rectangles to opposite
edges of a Pinwheel unit to make Unit B
(Diagram 4). The unit should be 3× 351 ∕ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat to make
two B units.6 ) Referring to Diagram 5, lay out solid dark
teal 8× 351 ∕ 2 ", 10^1 ∕ 2 × 351 ∕ 2 ", and 5^1 ∕ 2 × 351 ∕ 2 "(^2) sq.^1 ∕ 8 "
