- RECORD BREAKERS
With Neil Critchley in charge, the FA Cup fourth-round
replay was billed as Liverpool U23s v Shrewsbury Town,
but with an average age of 19 years and 102 days it was
efectively a Liverpool U19s team that beat the Shrews.
Liverpool’s youngest-ever starting XI, average age 19
years and 182 days, appeared against Aston Villa in the
Carabao Cup quarter-final in December while the first-team
were in Qatar winning the FIFA Club World Cup. It seemed
somehow inconceivable that we’d ever see a younger
LFC side, but that record was smashed by 80 days against
Shrewsbury Town.
Will it ever be beaten? Probably not. But then you just
never know what’s next for Liverpool FC.
- CURTIS JONES
Just ive days after his 19th
birthday, Jones became the
youngest player to captain
Liverpool FC. Never before has
a teenager worn the armband,
and Jones was made up to have
broken a club record held by Alex
Raisbeck for 120 years!
“It’s a dream come true,” he
told LFCTV. “Trent’s dream is
to captain the team, my dream
is to captain the team because
it’s an unbelievable club. It’s got
an unbelievable history, it’s got
unbelievable fans and it’s an
amazing feeling just to be out
there and playing. But to captain
the team is just an extra bit
special.”
