KELLEHER’S
CLEAN-SHEET
Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s
introduction to irst-team football is
turning into quite a story. He made his
irst-team debut at MK Dons in the Carabao
Cup and kept a clean-sheet but then
conceded ive on his Anield debut against
Arsenal in the same competition only to
become the penalty shoot-out hero when
he saved from Dani Ceballos.
The next round at Aston Villa saw
Kelleher concede five again, but he shut-out
Shrewsbury at Anfield on his FA Cup debut to
keep his first clean-sheet in a home game.
Not many 21-year-olds have kept goal
for the Reds on four occasions and the
way Kelleher dominated his penalty area to
catch a late cross was a sign of a goalkeeper
growing in confidence with every game he
plays.
“We played like a Liverpool team and I’m so
proud of them. They have definitely made a
step forward.”
NEIL CRITCHLEY
For the second time this season U23s manager
Neil Critchley stood in for Jürgen Klopp and now
he has his irst win in charge of Liverpool FC during
a senior competition.
He was full of praise for both his players and the
support they got. “I’m only standing in for tonight
and the players have done the club proud,” he said.
“The support we had was incredible, a full house –
absolutely ridiculous for them to turn up and support
those young kids. They were so appreciative of it.
They stayed right to the end because they saw boys
giving everything on the pitch.“
