Photos does not replace iMovie, but the video editing features enable you to

Freeform crop videos
Open a video, press the rightmost icon in
the toolbar at the bottom and press the square
icon, top-right. Select ‘Freeform’ at the bottom
and drag the corners of the video to crop it.2
Choose preset sizes
A list of preset sizes is under the video.
Swipe to see them and select one of the
aspect ratios. A landscape video can be

Browse for videos
Open the Photos app and find a video you
need to edit. The best way is to go to Albums
and open Videos under Media Types. Select a
video and tap ‘Edit’ in the top-right corner.4
Rotate a video
If a video is not horizontal or if you want
to add a special effect to a video for interest,
press the last icon in the toolbar, then drag the
control to rotate the video.2
Select a tool
The video opens and there are icons at
the bottom to select the various editing tools,
and a timeline above. Press the Play button on
the left to preview the video clip.5
Skew the video
Other problems may be apparent if the
iPhone was not held properly. Tap the other
two icons to correct problems with the shot or
to simply apply special effects to it.3
Trim the ends
If the video needs trimming, press and
drag the start and end arrows to select the
beginning and end of the clip. Drag the play
position indicator (white bar) to view it.6
Save the changes
Press ‘Done’ in the bottom-right corner
when you are happy with the edits. There is
an option to save the video or save it as a new
clip. Always choose to save a new clip.
