STAGE 4
INDIVIDUAL
CHARACTER
Continuing with a palette
knife I develop the individual
character of the ridges and
mountain slopes using a
variety of detailed marks
and shapes. Foundations for
snow in the foreground are
established, and darker tones
introduced into the clouds.
STAGE 5
ADDING DEPTH
Layers of snow soften edges and
help to add depth to the background
mountains. Warmer tones bring
life to foreground rocks and the
pinnacles of Crib Goch.
STAGE 6
HINTS OF COLOR
Light blues and lilacs with hints
of yellow ochre and crimson are
painted in over the flanks and
pinnacles of Crib Goch ridge to depict
the snow, and detail is added to
foreground rocks.
STAGE 7
FOREGROUND ELEMENTS
Foreground grasses and thick snow textures
were then put in place, and opaque misty
glazes were applied to bring depth and
distance in areas of the painting, bringing
focus to features of interest.
