In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 750, a chief sent by the king of
Samarkand presented ten horses and regional objects (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei
p.5030).
In the 9th month (Sep./Oct.) of 751, envoys from Samarkand
offered gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5030).
In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 753) of the Chinese year 752, envoys
from Samarkand offered presents (Chiu T’ang shu 198:14b; Ts’e-fu yüan-
kuei p.5030).
In 754, envoys from Samarkand offered gifts (Chiu T’ang shu 198:
14b;Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5031).
On July 10, 758, the Chief Clerk of Samarkand was received at the
T’ang court (Chiu T’ang shu 10:9a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5031).
In the autumn of 772, envoys from Samarkand offered gifts (Ts’e-fu
yüan-kuei p.5031).
KABU ̄DH$N
This state, which was called Ts’ao in Chinese, was situated northeast
of Samarkand, between it and the Syr-Darya. As will be seen, there
are references to Eastern, and Western Kabådh§n.^16
On Aug.29, 614, envoys from Kabådh§n to the Sui court offered
regional objectst. On Feb.4, 615, the New Year’s Day, Emperor Yang
gave a great banquet for these and other envoys (Sui shu 4:9a, 9b;
Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 338:48a).
In the 7th month (July/Aug.) of 624, envoys from Kabådh§n to
the T’ang court offered gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5023).^17
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 642, envoys from Kabådh§n pre-
sented regional objects (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5024).
In the 10th month (Nov./Dec.) of 652, envoys from Kabådh§n
offered gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5025).
