court. They had received their orders on Dec.10, 1193, and arrived
on Jan.20, 1194 (Sung shih 36:14a; Chin shih 10:4b, 5a).
After the abdicated Emperor Hsiao-tsung of Southern Sung had
died on June 28, 1194, Kuang-tsung sent envoys to Chin on June 30
to announce it. These were received at the Chin court on Sep.30 (Sung
shih 36:17b; Chin shih 10:7a).).
On July 24, 1194, Emperor Kuang-tsung was overthrown in a coup
and forced to abdicate. He died on Sep.17, 1200, aged 54. Kuang-tsung
was succeeded by his second son, born in 1168. This was Emperor
Ning-tsung (Sung shih 36:18a; 37:2b, 15a).
In the 7th month (July/Aug.) of 1194, Ning-tsung sent envoys to
the Chin court to announce his father’s abdication (Sung shih 37:3a).
On Sep.16, 1194, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court congratu-
lated on the birthday of Chang-tsung. They had received their orders
in the 6th month (June/July) (Sung shih 36:17a; Chin shih 10:6b).
On Oct.6, 1194, Chang-tsung sent a local Administrator and other
Chin envoys to Southern Sung to condole and sacrifice on the death
of the abdicated Emperor Hsiao-tsung. These were received at the
Southern Sung court on Nov.25. Ning-tsung responded with envoys
to the Chin court who thanked for the condolence (Sung shih 37:5b;
Chin shih 10:7a)
In the 10th month (Oct./Nov.) of 1194, Southern Sung envoys
presented Hsiao-tsung’s testamentary gift to the Chin court (Chin shih
10:7a).
On Nov.15, 1194, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court
announced the enthronement of Ning-tsung (Chin shih 10:7b).
On Jan.29, 1195, Chin envoys to the Southern Sung court con-
gratulated on the enthronement of Ning-tsung (Sung shih 37:6a).
On Feb.12, 1195, the New Year’s Day, Southern Sung envoys con-
gratulated at the Chin court. They had received their orders on Nov.9,

    court. They had received their orders on Dec.27, 1194, and arrived
    on Feb.8, 1195 (Sung shih 37:5a, 6a-6b; Chin shih 10:8a, 8b).
    On Apr.9. 1195, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court thanked
    for the congratulations on Ning-tsung’s enthronement (Chin shih 10:
    8b).
    On Oct.5, 1195, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court con-
    gratulated on the birthday of Chang-tsung. They had received their
    order on July 14 (Sung shih 37:7b; Chin shih 10:19b).
