Performconfigurationitemverificationandaudit.Configurationverificationandconfiguration audits
ensurethatthecompositionofaproject'sconfigurationitemsiscorrectandthat corresponding
changesareregistered,assessed,approved,tracked,andcorrectlyimplemented.This ensuresthat
thefunctionalrequirementsdefinedintheconfigurationdocumentationaremet.


Toolsshouldsupportthefollowingchangemanagementactivitiesaswell:


o Identify changes. Identifying and selecting a change item for processes or projectdocuments.


o Document changes. Documenting the change into a proper changerequest.


o Decide on changes. Reviewing the changes; approving, rejecting, deferring, or making any other
decision about changes to the project document, deliverables, orbaselines.


o Track changes. Verifying that the changes are registered, assessed, approved, and tracked and
communicating final results tostakeholders.


Tools are also used to manage the change requests and the resulting decisions. Additional
considerations should be made for communications to assist the change control board (CCB)
membersintheirduties,aswellastodistributethedecisionstotheappropriatestakeholders.


Althoughchangesmaybeinitiatedverbally,theyshouldberecordedinwrittenformandenteredinto
thechangemanagementand/orconfigurationmanagementsystem.Changerequestsmay require
informationonestimatedscheduleimpactsandestimatedcostimpactspriortoapproval. Whenever
achange requestmayimpactany oftheproject baselines,aformalintegratedchange control
processisalwaysrequired.Everydocumentedchangerequestneedstobeeitherapproved, deferred,
or rejected by a responsible individual, usually the project sponsor or project manager. The
responsible individual will be identified in the project management plan or by organizational
procedures. When required, the Perform Integrated Change Control processincludes a change
control board (CCB), which is a formally charteredgroup responsiblefor reviewing, evaluating,
approving,deferring,orrejectingchangestotheprojectandforrecordingandcommunicatingsuch
decisions.


Approvedchangerequestscanrequireneworrevisedcostestimates,activitysequences,schedule
dates, resourcerequirements, and/ or analysisofrisk response alternatives.These changescan
requireadjustmentstotheprojectmanagementplanandotherprojectdocuments.Customeror
sponsorapprovalmayberequiredforcertainchangerequestsafterCCBapproval,unlesstheyare
partoftheCCB.
