This is the main formula to tonify Spleen-Qi and stop diarrhoea from Spleen and Stomach
deficiency.
- Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling and Gan Cao form the Si Jun Zi Tang Four Gentlemen
Decoction which tonifies Stomach- and Spleen-Qi. - Bian Dou, Shan Yao and Lian Zi tonify the Spleen and Stomach. Bian Dou and Shan
Yao also tonify Spleen-Yin; Lian Zi is also astringent and stops diarrhoea. - Sha Ren and Yi Yi Ren resolve Dampness, the former via sweating, the latter via
urination. - Jie Geng is added to carry the formula to the Upper Burner and the Lungs, so that it also
tonifies Lung-Qi. Jie Geng is sometimes described as having the same function as that of
an oar of a boat.

This remedy has the same ingredients and indications as the homonymous formula above.
The tongue presentation appropriate to this remedy is a Pale body with a rootless coating in the
centre, and possibly a Stomach crack.
