ìLast year I spent a week at Our Lady of the Angels

Monastery in Birmingham, Alabama, home of Mother

Angelica's Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Early one

morning, a voice over the loudspeaker announced: ëMother

asks everyone to leave the chapel immediately.í Outside,

Mother Angelica explained that a possible gas leak had been

discovered in the building. As Mother talked she kept looking

toward the chapel, finally inquiring, ëWhere is Jesus? Where

is Jesus?í Soon two sisters emerged from the chapel smiling,

one carrying the Blessed Sacrament (the Eucharist). ëWe've got

him, Mother!í she cried. ëDon't worry!íî 10

During one of her many ìapparitionsî the Blessed Virgin Mary gave this
admonishment:

ìMy children, kneel before your God in the Eucharist.î 11

The pope is given the task of leading the faithful Catholics in the doctrines of
Mother Church. John Paul II (the current pope in 2003) is a strong advocate for
the worship and adoration of the Most Holy Eucharist.

ìAdoration of Christ in this Sacrament of love must also find

expression in various forms of Eucharistic devotion:

personal prayer before the Blessed Sacrament [the

Eucharist], hours of adoration, and periods of exposition -

short, prolonged and annual (Forty Hours) - Eucharistic

benediction, Eucharistic processions, Eucharistic

Congresses.î 12

The mass is the center of Catholicism and the Eucharist is the center of the
mass.

ìthe EucharistÖstands at the centre of the Church's life.î 13

ì...Eucharistic worship is the center and goal of all

sacramental life.î 14 (emphasis mine)

Even though scripture states:

ìIn him (Jesus) was life; and the life was the light of men.î

John 1:4

It is the Catholic Churchís belief that:

ìThe Church draws her life from the Eucharist.î 15
