“Leadership and epistemological responsibility in African universities
in the 21st Century”
Professor Catharine Odora-Hoppers is a UNESCO expert in basic
education, lifelong learning, information systems and on Science and
Society; an expert in disarmament at the UN Department of
Disarmament Affairs; an expert to the World Economic Forum on
benefit sharing and value addition protocols; and the World Intellectual
Property Organisation on traditional knowledge and community
intellectual property rights. She holds a South African Research Chair in
Development Education at the University of South Africa, a National
Chair set up by the Department of Science and Technology. She is a
Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa, and a Fellow of the
African Academy of Sciences (AAS).

“Some exploratory thoughts on openness and an ethics of care”
Dr Liz Archer is a qualified Educational Psychologist with a PhD in
Assessment and Quality Assurance. She started her career at the
University of Pretoria. In 2011 she joined the University of South
Africa. She has spent 17 years in training and consulting in education
and research. She is a rated researcher with the South African National
Research Foundation (NRF). She has been the recipient of a number of
prestigious scholarships and awards including the SKYE fellowship. She
has also presented conferences and guest lectures all over the world in
countries such as New Zealand, Malaysia, Ethiopia, Austria, the
Netherlands, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.
