„ Check the position of the rear roller guards and adjust if necessary (see section on rear
roller guards below).

2.1.1.2 Belt Tracking – Weekly Check

All technologists:

„ Notify the chief technologist whenever the belt moves to one side or the other (off
center). The chief technologist will adjust the belt tracking as follows.

Chief technologist:

„ Stay off the belt when adjusting tracking.

„ Use the controls on the controller to start the treadmill at minimum speed and grade.

„ Increase speed to 3.7 mph to make adjustments.

„ If the belt moves to the right, turn the right tension bolt a quarter turn clockwise.

„ If the belt moves to the left, turn the left tension bolt a quarter turn clockwise.

„ After making an initial adjustment, run the treadmill for several minutes and observe
how the belt tracks. Adjustments to belt tracking take several minutes to become
apparent. If the belt continues to move off center, adjust accordingly until it is
properly centered. Do not tighten the belt too much as this will cause accelerated
wear on the roller bearings.

„ Stop the treadmill.

„ Check the position of the roller guards (see section on rear roller guards).

2.1.1. 3 Rear Roller Guards - Weekly Check

All technologists:

„ See Figure 2-2. Check the position of the rear roller guards each time you readjust the
belt tracking or belt tension. The roller guards are located at the rear of the treadmill
between the rear roller and the deck.

„ If the gap between the roller and the guard exceeds 3/8 of an inch, notify the chief
technologist.
