COOKIE

CUTTERS
This month, whip
out these versatile
tools for a little bit
of kitchen fun!

TERRIFIC

TOOL

SHAPE SHIFTERS
The fun thing
about cookie
cutters is that they
now come in a
huge variety of
shapes and sizes.
There are simple
shapes like circles
and squares,
classic ones like
gingerbread
“i˜>˜`yœÜiÀÃ]
and even cutters
with stamps that
imprint patterns
onto cookies!

KID-FRIENDLY
Cookie cutters aren’t
just for adults. Thanks
to the blunt, rounded
edges around the
tops of most cookie
cutters, kids of all
ages can use them
without the risk of
injuring themselves,
no matter how hard
they press. It’s a fun
way to get the little
ones interested
in cooking!

COOKIES, ETC.
These cutters aren’t
just for cutting out
cookies. You can
use them to make
perfectly round
doughnuts, stamp
out fun patterns
on your piecrust
(see page 98), and
cut out fresh pasta
into fun shapes for
ravioli and free-
form lasagna. You
can even make
quirky pancake
shapes using cookie
cutters: Place a
metal cutter in
the pan and pour
your batter into it.
Remove the cutter
once the pancake
is set.

WELL-ROUNDED AND
MULTIPURPOSE
If you’re keeping track of
kitchen space and don’t
want to add to the clutter,
pick a set of round cutters,
which are a safe choice
with a multitude of uses.

FLIP-SIDE
Some round cookie
cutters (such as the ones
pictured) come with
two usable sides—one
«>ˆ˜]̅iœÌ…iÀyÕÌi`p
doubling their overall
functionality without the
need for more cutters.

METAL VS. PLASTIC
Cookie cutters often come
in two materials: plastic
and metal. While metal
cutters are much sharper
and result in cleaner lines
and cuts, plastic cutters
are lightweight and are
safer to use, especially
if you’re cooking with kids.
