03: DESIGN DEAKIN HOUSE
LOCATION DEAKIN, CANBERRA
Practicality and good design triumph in
this Canberra residence, which caters well
for indoor living, with wide corridors for
wheelchair access. Seniors Bill and Barb
Coyle’s custom-designed home is elegant,

timeless and a treasure trove of creative
features. Says Peter of the design: “If ever
a design suited two people who planned to
spend more time indoors, it’s this one. There
is so much to love about this house, but
what I like most is what it tells us about the
allure of great design.” The right fi xtures and

fi ttings are the fi nishing touches to showcase
exemplary design. Here, a tasteful Muuto’s
Under the Bell pendant shines in the bedroom.

04: DESIGN CLIFFTOP HOUSE
LOCATION HILLSBOROUGH
Homeowners Diane and Hamish Divett
have found their scenic modernist slice of
paradise, with views of Mangere Mountain. It
wasn’t all smooth sailing, though, as it was a
complicated build due to the steep location
of the block, along with budget blowouts and
creative diff erences with their architect. The
result, however, pays homage to heartfelt
perseverance and problem solving. One of
the stand-out features in the home is the
kitchen with its unique elongated benchtop.
Above sits a series of black pendant lights that
complement the monochrome kitchen palette.
