If you’re posting on
YouTube, upload videos
weekly as this will keep
your subscribers engaged
and hanging for content.
If you’re starting out on
Instagram, keep your feed
stable, using the same
filters. A uniform style of
posts is not only visually
appealing for your viewers,
but it builds a brand.

back for more!’ (^) – @EATING

7/ Keep your
competitors
close
Like with any business, you
need to keep a keen eye on
those competing against you.
Anybody replicating your
vibe or tone could be pulling
your followers away, so keep
your page on the pulse and
post about hot topics and
trending searches – this will
ensure engagement and a
steady following. If you feel
like your image is perhaps
being duplicated or someone
is producing similar content,
don’t be afraid to rebrand!
A new look and a fresh voice
will create buzz.
3/ Secure
your passion
Whether you’re into travel,
food or fitness it’s important
that your brand is clear. You
will gain followers’ trust and
set a tone of authority by
reviewing and posting about
specific things rather than
trying to cover everything.
Think about some of your
favourite inf luencers; their
brand commits to only one
or two subjects to ensure
that they’re well-versed in
their field. It’s best to pair
your interests appropriately:
beauty and lifestyle, personal
style and fashion, fitness and
nutrition, food and travel...
This will make it easier to
market yourself.
‘Know who you are and
what your brand is. I am
very particular with who I
collaborate with; it has to be
organic. I’m so fortunate that
I have amazing experiences
to document and share my
passions with my audience.’

4/ Find
your niche
Don’t get ahead of yourself

  • there is a lot of content
out there. The only way to
succeed is to have a point of
    difference. Think outside the
box – if you’re into fashion,
    is there something unique
    about your job or lifestyle
that may just appeal to a
    different market? If you’re
into food, do you live in a
    certain undiscovered foodie
    haven? Always be looking
    to provide something fresh,
    and creating new content that
not only looks good but also
    entices followers to read and
    share your content. This will
then attract a new wave of
    opportunities – i.e. more
    money-making opportunities.

‘The market is saturated,
so unless you have something
unique to give or a particular
business to push that works
with social media, don’t make
it your sole purpose or goal in
life. It doesn’t always work for

ever ybody.’ (^) – STEPH CLAIRE SMITH,
@STEPHCLAIRESMITH
5/ BE
CONSISTENT
6/ Engage,
engage,
engage!
Liking other people’s photos
and commenting on posts
is a surefire way to boost
your following. A retweet can
go a long way. Engaging with
like-minded bloggers is key
to finding your audience.
Leaving a simple comment
on a popular blogger’s page
will mean their millions of
followers are likely to see
your comment, meaning free
exposure to mass audiences.
Engagement is the key to
cash and collaborations with
brands, so staying on top of
your numbers is essential.
‘Keep posting consistent content
and always have a point of
difference. Responding to your
followers and providing an
open forum for discussion is
super important. The more you
give your audience, the more
you receive back!’
