CHRISTMAS MAKES

STEP 2 Mark 1cm intervals
across top and bottom of foil
board strip. Matching marks, rule
vertical lines across board.
STEP 3 Working on cutting mat,
place steel ruler against each
marked line and score it with bone
folder. Scoring the lines makes it
easier to concertina fold board.
STEP 4 Make concertina folds across
board. Punch small holes across 1
long edge, about 2cm from edge.
STEP 5 Thread gold cord onto needle.
Overlap short ends of folded board
(this will be back of angel). Starting at
overlapped ends and leaving a long
tail, pass cord through all holes until
back to where you started. Leaving a
longish tail, snip cord. Pull cord tails
tightly, gathering concertina folds close
together at top with angel skirt splaying
out. Tie off securely and trim ends.
STEP 6 Punch 2 gold circles from
board. With bamboo skewer centred,
hot-glue pointy end to wrong side of
a circle. Matching top half of circle
edges, hot-glue remaining circle to
first circle to conceal skewer. Trim
skewer to about 3–5cm long.
STEP 7 Place scrap card on top of
several folded sheets of tissue paper,
then punch through, using flower
punch. Using scrap card makes it
easier to punch through tissue paper.
Holding flower layers as 1, punch

a small hole in centre. Discarding the
scrap card, feed the skewer through
hole and then blow tissue flower to
create ruffles. Run hot glue around
the angel’s ‘neck’, then push the
skewer into the centre of the neck
until ruffles rest on it. Let glue set.
STEP 8 Make a single snip into ruffles
at centre back. Fold wings in half.
Run a line of hot glue partway down
centre back of neck and skirt. Press
fold of wings between skirt folds and
ruffles at centre back. The snipped
ruffles will rest either side of wings.

STARRY STARRY NIGHT
Gather your supplies
12 x 12in sheets of Glitter Card or
scrapbook cardstock (2); ruler; pencil;
scissors; double-sided adhesive
papercraft tape; tacky white glue;
paintbrush (for applying glue); fine
cord or fishing wire (optional) to hang

Here’s how
NOTE: For a medium star, trim
card to measure 10 x 10in, follow
instructions as for large star except
in Step 5, mark, then cut rectangular
fold lines 5.2mm from edge of card.

Folding
STEP 1 Fold card in half to make
a rectangle. Run your thumbnail
or edge of your ruler along the
fold line. Open out card.
STEP 2 Swivel the card so the
fold line is now lying vertical to
you. Fold the card again to make
a rectangle, as you did before.
Open out the card. Folds will now
divide the paper into 4 squares.
STEP 3 With card face down
and arranged as a diamond in
front of you, fold in half to make
a triangle. Open out card.
STEP 4 Rotate card so fold made in
Step 3 is vertical. Fold card in half again
to make a triangle. Open out card. The
folds now divide card into 8 triangles.
STEP 5 On each side (on the rectangle
folds), mark 6.2cm in from the edge.
Cutting on each of these fold lines,
snip into card up to 6.2cm marks.

Making star shape
STEP 6 Raise a cut edge and fold
it over so cut edge is even with its
corresponding diagonal fold, making
a triangular ‘flap’. Repeat to make its
partner flap. Working your way around
card, repeat this step 3 more times,
until 4 sets of star flaps are completed.
STEP 7 With ‘star’ wrong side up, stick
double-sided tape along left-side outer
fold of a set of flaps. Peel away tape
backing paper. Matching edges, stick
right flap on top of left flap to complete
a 3D star point. Repeat this step to
complete remaining 3 star points.
STEP 8 Repeat Steps 1–7 to
make another 4-point-star.

Finishing
STEP 9 Bring wrong side of 2 stars
together and swivel until you have
an 8-point star. Mark where these
stars join. Apply tacky glue inside
marked lines of 1 star only. Let glue
tack off but not set. Matching the
marks, bring the stars together and
hold until glue has a firm grip. Once
the glue grips, balance the star on
a bowl until glue sets completely.
Then hang the stars with cord.

GILDED GLASS BAUBLES
Gather your supplies
Clear glass baubles, large and small;
DecoArt Americana Satin artist’s
acrylics in Coastal Waters, Blue
Lagoon and Lavender Fields;
paper towel; plastic cups; 30mm
plastic shot glasses; paintbrush;
soft bristle brush; gold size;
gold leaf; stencil brush

Here’s how
NOTE: Collect and re-use excess paint.
STEP 1 Remove bauble hangers and
set aside. Working with 1 bauble at
a time, pour a little paint in desired
colour into it. Pressing paper towel
over opening, shake bauble until
inner surface is covered with paint.
Rest bauble on a plastic cup (or shot
glass for the small baubles) with open
end facing down so paint drains into
cup. Allow paint to dry completely.
